What Is Your Job
I work with ambitious entrepreneurs. Mostly they are owner drivers. That is, they are, at the same time, the owner of the business and the CEO or M.D. of that business.
In reality these are two separate jobs. The owner doesn’t have to be the CEO just as the CEO doesn’t have to be the owner or even part of the ownership.
Even I often forget that we are talking about two separate jobs because so often the owner is the CEO. However it is a choice. And as with any choice it is preferable that it is a considered and thoughtful choice. I suspect it is rarely the case. Over the next two weeks I will look at the priority for each role, because they are different and hopefully I can help you get greater clarity which will help you make an even better fist of it.
Now that I have introduced you to the two distinct roles you can start thinking about how that distinction might inform your decisions and your actions.
So the questions for this week are;
- What do you think the primary role of the owner is?
- What do you think the primary role of the CEO is?
- Is this a distinction you have ever been conscious of before?
- What implications might this have for you personally?
