Watershed Moments

Life keeps giving us watershed moments. You’ll know what I mean by watershed moments. Those moments when what we do will cause us to cascade down one side of the divide or another, and the side we choose will have a long and lasting impact. Sometimes positive, other times negative.

Unfortunately, watershed moments don’t come with a neon warning sign. They tend to arise somewhat hidden and disguised.

Its funny how, looking back, where the outcome has been positive, we tend to take the credit for having chosen the correct path, whereas when things havent turned out so good we fall into victim mode and blame circumstance. ‘I decided to say goodbye to that customer, it was the best decision I ever made’ versus ‘with the recession we were forced to start making widgets’.

The fact that watershed moments don’t have a neon warning sign- give the health and safety people a chance and I am sure they will, in time!- is a blessing because it means we can create our own watershed moments whenever we want. Just because we have always had a cigarette after dinner doesn’t mean that we have to today. Just because we always eat bad food, fail to look after ourselves, work too hard and too ineffectively doesn’t mean that we have to repeat the felony again today. There are watershed moments hidden everywhere if we choose to see them and make them watershed moments
