Wanting Isn’t Enough

When I was a kid my dad used to tell me I could do anything I wanted, if I just wanted it badly enough. In my ignorance I took him literally. I really really wanted lots of things but it took a lot of time and disappointment to realise that wanting was not enough.

What he meant is that I had to want to pay the price. There is always a price. If I wanted to be a great pianist or footballer, the price would be in the hours of practice.

In reality it isnt the want that is necessary. It is the willingness to pay the price. That is the imperative without which, we, none of us, achieve what we could.

I realise I need to change my own language and no longer simply to ask people what they want to achieve without asking them if they are prepared to pay the price necessary.

So the questions for this week are;

  • When you think of your ambitions and aspirations, what is the price to pay?
  • How much do you want to achieve the above?
  • Are you committed to paying the price?
