Learning How to Scale Up
OK I know I teach people how to scale up their businesses, but for business owners learning what needs to be learned isn’t like teaching Biology or French. Scaling Up is about a leadership, strategic, execution and financial skillset, that when applied successfully should allow a business to grow rapidly. It will remove the barriers to growth (see last weeks blog)
Without these skillsets any spark of growth will not turn into a fire of scaling.
There is no one way to scale a business. There are as many ways as there are people, businesses or teams.
It is not about teaching anybody anything, it is about helping the Team find their own best way. No two businesses start in the same place and want to arrive at the same place. I hate the Americanism ‘cookie cutter’ but there is no cookie cutter approach to this journey.
It isn’t about teaching so much as helping each individual team find their own best way. Think of any performer, singer, actor athlete. They have found their own best way. The process by which we learn this isn’t teaching, it is coaching.
Sure there are some obvious things to avoid, and it is better to learn them from someone else’s experience than have to learn them the hard (and slow) way. As Zig Ziglar said “Some of us learn from other people’s mistakes and the rest of us have to be other people.”
In Sherry Coutu’s Scaling Up report to government she said ‘80 per cent (of scaling companies) said they would grow faster if they could find mentoring or coaching schemes that were effective’
So the question for today is
- How can you find a coach that can help your team find your best way?
Many successful business owners eventually hit a wall on growth and struggle to climb it alone. When you work with me you get a fresh perspective, a solid plan, and customised coaching so you can grow and scale your business safely and at speed.
