A couple of days ago a new President of the USA was sworn in. even before the ceremony was concluded a slew of changes were being put into action any one of which will change our world. Something similar is happening in the UK.

Change isn’t just political. We have a tsunami of change coming at us from every angle. AI, climate change, the challenges for us all are greater demand, higher quality, lower cost and more sustainability. The world today is different to what it was yesterday. Everyday.

Jack Welch once said ‘If the rate of change on the outside exceeds the rate of change on the inside, the end is near.’.

L>E.C. means Organizational learning must equal or be greater than the speed of environmental change. Which is the Darwinian Law of Organisational Survival.

The old saying of get better or get beaten has never been more relevant. The ultimate challenge is the boiling frog syndrome. The frog doesn’t  notice the gradual increase of temperature until it is too late and the frog is boiled alive. We don’t notice the gradual changes in the environment until our business is no longer fit for purpose. Often it is better / easier and more effective to start again than upgrade our old model.

So the questions for this week are;

• We know the speed of environmental change is lightning fast. Do you have a learning culture that is also lightning fast?
• If not, what can you do about that?
• Real organisational learning happens at the team level. What is your strategy for coaching your leadership team to perform at a higher level?
