It isn’t just that I am getting older. The pace of modern life is ever more frenetic. In a world that is always on, as individuals, we are bombarded with things demanding our attention. We don’t have time to think. We are always in motion.

Of course, all of the above also describes the entrepreneur. People with a bias for action who seem to have an uncanny way of just making things happen.

Although moving fast seems like a good thing, driving faster down the wrong road just gets you to where you don’t want to be quicker. That person doesn’t need to speed up, but they may need to change direction.

Someone once said that reflection turns experience into insight. If we don’t make the time to reflect we will likely miss the insights that our experience is trying to teach us.

To do:

1. Schedule some regular quiet time to reflect on your experiences since your last reflection.
2. Involve a coach, a trusted advisor or a friend who is bold enough to trade in the truth with you to get a more balanced perspective and interpretation of your experiences.
3. Keep a journal of your learnings.
4. Create an action plan to turn your most powerful insights into more useful behaviours.
5. Rinse and repeat.
