Forecasting

Everyone is an expert. You can hardly open a publication or turn on the TV without someone forecasting what the economic outlook is going to be for the near future.

Interestingly the latest OECD forecast predicts global growth of 3.1% this year and 2.2% next year. Not significant growth but growth nonetheless.

Personally I pay no attention to such forecasts or indeed the so called experts. My own experience is that in the world of SME’s and anything other than global giants the biggest single factor in determining the success or otherwise of your growing firm is in our own hands; how we think, knowing the best things to do and executing relentlessly are the success ingredients whatever the climate.

To do:

• Reflect on how you are thinking about the opportunities ahead of you. Are you expecting to do well or not? Remember that expectation = realisation?
• To what degree are you investing in your own growth and the growth of your leadership team? Is it effective and is it enough?
• How can you improve how you think and what you do?
