Getting Harder

Running a business has never been easy and I doubt it ever will be. Perhaps we are deluding ourselves to ever think it should be.

Back in November 2008 the publication Criticaleye commented “The rules for creating a successful business haven’t changed since the crash of 2008, it’s just become a lot harder to get away with running a company badly.”

Almost 20 years on those words are even more true. Talk to any entrepreneur and they will tell you about their learning journey. You will hear phrases like ‘every day is a school day’.

No one comes into business as a fully formed, successful entrepreneur. Everybody has to learn as they go and in a world that demands competence and values speed one of the most important factors is how much and how quickly we learn.

If you can outlearn the others you have a very good chance of outperforming them and winning in the great game of business.

So, the questions for today are:

• What is your strategy for learning how to run a business exceptionally well?
• How much time and money do you invest in your own development?
• How much time and money do you invest in developing your leaders?
• On a score of 0 to 10 how well is your business performing now?
• How can you move that score by 2 points?
