Blind Spot 3

The Queen Mother thought the whole world smelled of fresh paint. Everywhere she went had been newly decorated.

As a business leader you will also live in some sort of bubble. You will be presented with what you want and expect to see. You will be told what you want to be told and agreed with most of the time.

It might not always feel like it but trust me, that is what is happening. You may have your critics but those closest to you will generally not want to rock the boat. That is just the way it is.

So when you need to get out of the bubble, to trade in the truth, where do you turn? With so many people having a vested interest it can be almost impossible to get an informed but unbiased opinion.

If feedback is the breakfast of champions, who is serving yours up?

So the questions for this week are;

• Do you have a formal arrangement with someone to have a deeply personal and intimate conversation specifically designed to help you get better?
• If so, does your thinking partner have the status to be truly independent?
• Are they prepared to put candour above all other interests?
• Are they purely motivated by the desire to see you grow?
