Work Harder

A wise man once said “Your level of success will rarely exceed your level of personal development.”

I am writing an article about the 19 biggest learnings coming from 19 years as a business coach and this is definitely up there. Without a doubt the best and most successful coachees over 19 years are those who work hardest on themselves. Those who have a growth mindset and are willing to suffer the discomfort of learning and changing.

Working hard on your business will be frustrating and exhausting if we aren’t prepared to work hard on ourselves. Over the years I have done lots of courses, degrees and qualifications in business theory but running a successful business is less about what we know than what we successfully do. That is why I am such an advocate of coaching because coaching is about behavioural transformation rather than a transfer of knowledge.

Work harder on yourself than you do on your business.

So the questions for this week are;

• How deliberate am I in developing myself?
• Who are my guides on this journey?
• How am I demonstrating / measuring my progress?
• Am I simply increasing my knowledge or enhancing my behaviour?
• What more can I do?
