A desperate need for coaching

They may seem to have it all – money, security and success.

But the sad reality is that most business leaders, they do their jobs with torment hidden deep inside.

My survey, as part of the recent ‘Save the Entrepreneur’ campaign, revealed plenty of heartbreaking home truths about those at the very top of the North East business ladder.

Many admit said they were stressed, anxious and lonely.

And one of the most sobering statistics showed that most of the 100+ leaders we polled felt there just wasn’t enough support on hand for the region’s business leaders.

In total, 63 per cent of those polled felt that way.

But thankfully, they are wrong.

There’s plenty of support available – and there’s no greater support than coaching.

And that isn’t just coming from me.

The survey showed that coaching is one of the most popular tactics to tackle those dark thoughts.

It comes as little surprise to me, as I’ve long known that coaching can be a lifeline for both your own wellbeing and that of your business.

Having someone on-hand to share the highs and lows that running a business can bring is invaluable. And that’s because the old saying really is true – it can be lonely at the top, and this survey showed that.

However, the best way of getting out of a hole is to not fall in it to begin with, and tackling any issues as soon as they arise – or before they do, if possible – is always the best approach.

Some business leaders turn to coaching as a hand to hold when problems arise, but it has the greatest impact when it guides you from the onset.

Working with a coach like myself can offer you a support network like no other. Your coach can and will become many things – a voice of reason, understanding and support. A friendly voice on the end of the phone when you need that emotional support, and also someone to talk through those difficult discussions you can’t always share with your own team.

And the bonus is, it can help your business grow – whilst helping you develop as a person and as a business leader.

So, as a business community, let’s stop burying these feelings deep down inside of us. Instead, lets grow together.
