The definition and concept of an A Player is one of the most useful and powerful concepts when we come to the first of the four decisions of People, Strategy, Execution and Cash.
Just explaining the model to client companies allows them to start to gain clarity over their people expectations and performance. Doing the work of defining performance standards- per job role- and behavioural standards -company wide- gives everyone a much clearer picture of what our ‘ideal team member’ looks like and behaves like.
This clarity greatly facilitates the whole recruitment and development process.
Randy Komisar once observed that the boss needed 3 distinct skills; to be able to recruit well, develop well and fire well. I believe that the A Player concept is a hugely important model in being able to facilitate this.
So the questions for today are:
