The Scaling Drag Factor
‘Don’t push for growth; remove the factors limiting growth’ Peter M Senge in ‘The Fifth Discipline’.
What are the factors limiting the growth of your business? There will be many. Here’s one or two to prime your thinking.
Do your team members want the business to grow as much as you do? Before you answer ask yourself why would they? It is easy to assume that others will automatically want what we want but why would they, really? Inevitably growth means more work, and for many people work is a four letter word. People are generally programmed to want to do less work rather than more work. So why would they strive to be busier, under more pressure just for you?
Money is a poor motivator, so don’t kid yourself that people will want to grow the business just so they can earn more money, and does the growth of your business necessarily translate to higher earnings for them anyway?
The challenge is how do you remove those factors limiting growth and help people want to scale the business as much as you do?
There are some fairly clear answers to this question, if you are prepared to look.
Todays question is
- How do you remove the factors, in your people, that are limiting growth?
To do:
- In the light of what you are now aware of what is the challenge, really?
- Come up with a set of actions to counter the situation.
- Sense check your thoughts with a trusted friend or a coach so you don’t make the nasty/ nice error above.
