Clarity is Power

Hi,

Team Massive Result’s Thursday’s Thoughts

Clarity is Power These are the three words that are used most frequently in my coaching rooms. I am not sure where the phrase originally came from but it has wormed itself into the lexicon and mindset of me and every client I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Clarity is a surprisingly rare commodity. We often assume that we are clear about what we are trying to do, about what we are trying to achieve and about why we are doing what we are doing, but my experience is that such a level of clarity is a rare and precious thing. When we are clear about those things we have an astonishing amount of power. When we realise precisely why we are doing things decisions become much easier, much clearer. In previous comments I have talked about being able to distinguish between the urgent and the important when managing our time, which is after all the scarcest and most perishable resource we have available to us. Our ability to understand what is important is predicated upon the amount of clarity we have on why we are doing what we are doing. The less clarity we have the less able we are to make those important decisions, and if we can’t decide whether something is important or not our ability to prioritise our activities is compromised. Not having enough clarity is probably the biggest challenge that clients have; not having enough clarity to be able to make the best decisions. So one of the best contributions a coach can make is to help the coachee to a greater level of clarity. This will naturally help the coachee to a better level of decision making, and as a direct consequence to a higher level of performance, understanding and joy. Einstein said “The significant challenges we face cannot be solved by the same level of thinking we were at when we created them” the ability to think at a higher level often comes from a greater level of clarity. No matter how hard we try, the decisions we make are often based on a limited level of clarity; clarity often develops through experience. This is one of the things we mean when we talk of learning from experience. Perhaps it is possible to short circuit this learning by experience, by learning to think at a higher level. The author Zig Ziglar once said “Some of us learn from other people’s mistakes and the rest of us have to be other people.” The process of being coached allows us to learn from other people’s mistakes, it also allows us the privilege to partake in facilitated thinking and to actually devote quality time to the process of thinking. All of which leads to greater clarity and remember clarity is power.

Clarity exists in many dimensions. Clarity of why; Clarity of what; Clarity of how and Clarity of when. You might wish to read the excellent book “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek

We are delighted to announce that Team Massive Results have added a new date to the event calendar. We are holding a April FREE seminar at our Hawk House Hub in Stockton-On-Tees. Click Here to book.
